It has been far too long since my last blog post. I had every intentions of keeping up with it.... updating friends and family on the latest Stuart family news and sharing fun crafts and delicious foods. I planned on writing a post about Tad leaving for Afghanistan and all the things the kids and I had planned to pass the time and I just never got to it with my slow recovery from knee surgery, over whelming demands of school, and running the house full time alone while trying to spend as much time online with my husband as possible. My days were full of everything but anything I wanted to accomplish! I would like to say the New Year brings the promise of settling down and finally some breathing room but that certainly does not seem like a forecast anytime in near the future! I doubt any of you will be surprised to read that my crazy life has literally had me coast to coast already this year and we are just barely through February!
My year kicked off in one of my favorite places in the world... New York City.
The kids and I spend New Years Day in the city visiting some family on our way back from spending Christmas in upstate New York with my family for two weeks.
New York is always an adventure whether you are stuck in the snow in upstate New York or watching the Naked Cowboy singing on the street corners of Manhattan. Needless to say I was very sad to leave both places especially after watching the kids have such a great time with their lattes and in awe over all the sights and sounds of the city!
We made it back to Utah in time to kick off a busy cheerleading season and a lot more snow!
And to think that was only January! Makes me tired just telling you about it! I was glad to see January pass by as quickly as it started. February meant Tad was coming home for two weeks and I could finally relax a little and have a little help at home and someone to drive me in the scary winter weather! But it also meant time was closing in on our weekend getaway for some much needed husband and wife time.
Although I think the weekend we spent in New York City in April of 2011 will forever be my favorite time away with Tad, this past weekend will be a very close second. Tad planned the whole trip himself. He surprised me with a trip to Long Beach, California on my favorite airline (JetBlue!), a super fun 2013 Ford Mustang Convertible, a very cozy hotel room, a day at my favorite beach Laguna Beach watching the dolphins swim and play, a day full of adventure at Universal Studios, a shopping spree on Rodeo Drive, and dinner at the Gordon Ramsey. Needless to say, I was overwhelmed with surprise and at a loss for words at how truly blessed I am to be married to such an incredible man. He some how managed to combined all my favorite things into this trip that was suppose to be about us.

It was an amazing weekend. I was very sad to see it end. It has been a very long time since Tad and I have just left everything behind us and spent time together without the distractions of everyday life. I can't tell you how nice it was to sit down at dinner and talk and laugh without Facebook or Words with Friends. It felt really good to reconnect and find our happy place together for awhile. I am really looking forward to him being home and the possibilities the future holds for us.
Needless to say, there are a lot more changes that are going on the Stuart house but we will save that for another day. For now, I am off to prep for another weekend of cheer and a much needed family movie marathon on Sunday. I will be back very soon with something fun ;) until then my friends take my advice and put the iphones away for a little bit and spend some quality time loving your significant other!
